Right fielder Bobby Abreu had 5 hits and 2 RBI as the SSB SSB Tar Heels
defeated the Tampico Stogies by the score of 15 to 8 at Minute Maid
Field.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Abreu. He laced a base-knock in the 1st inning, doubled in the
3rd inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 8th of the season)
in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 6th inning and slapped a one-base hit in
the 8th inning. SSB lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd inning which saw them
plate 8 runs on 7 hits. SSB totaled 14 on the afternoon.
The win was credited to Brett Myers(6-2) who went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 8
runs. The loss was charged to Jeff Suppan(3-5). His ERA increased from 5.64
to 6.75 as he allowed 9 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.
